College football is only played nothing but American football teams from American colleges fielded. They include teams from American universities, as well as military academies. Rutgers College, now Rutgers University, College of New Jersey is now at Princeton University and College is the field where now stands the College Avenue Gymnasium of Rutgers University.

The first "rugby-style" game of college football in the United States took place in 1875 between teams from Harvard and Yale. The credit of designing the game of American Football from Rugby, in 1892, goes to the one time captain of the Yale football team – Walter Chauncey Camp. The most important person in the history of American football, Camp has been rightly called "father of American football."
