Double Cross: Week 5 in Review

Week 5 was, at it's best, is another example of why the NFL is so popular, say. Close games and surprises were the topic of the day, how many Super Bowl contenders had to fight hard against seemingly inferior opponents, sometimes unsuccessfully. Show how the NFL is, there are no more undefeated teams this season. This is the earliest of these began in 1970, far from the Twin 13-0 by the Colts and Saints happened last year. Let's take a look at some of the key storylines from a busy weekend:

Last of the unbeaten

The Kansas City Chiefs were expected to be in rebuilding mode this year, but had a surprising 3-0 start thanks to big plays on special teams and unexpectedly strong play of their 2010 draft class. They faced their biggest challenge comes from their Week 4 bye, travel to Indianapolis for the AFC Champion Colts, the rage for a last-second loss to Jacksonville, they were left face to 2:2. Despite a valiant defensive effort, the Chiefs lost 19-9 to run its course, as the best team in the league (in terms of winning percentage) end. The defense has played very well, limiting the reigning MVP QB Peyton Manning, just 244 meters past the Colts and only one touchdown. However, the Chiefs can no impetus to keep on the offensive, and they lost a few early in the lurch. Nevertheless, the Chiefs showed they could with one of the most successful teams of the past decade to hang, and intact with its position atop the AFC West, they should continue to be a factor in the playoff race this season to be.

Late stimulates the creation of rock

The New Orleans Saints were licking their chops. The defending Super Bowl champions have been traveling to Arizona for the Cardinals, who, after they were routed by San Diego in Week 4 cocoons face. To make matters worse, would give the Cardinals starting QB Max Hall, an undrafted rookie his first NFL. By all accounts, this should have been an easy victory for the Saints. Instead, they were licking their wounds after home after Arizona shocked they sent 30-20. The Cardinals took the excitement despite not scoring a rushing or receiving TD, scans, thanks to two late TDs and a pick-six recovered. The Saints' offense has not been his usual explosive self, and at 3-2 they are now a full game behind Atlanta in the NFC South. Speaking of San Diego, they were flying high after the blowout victory against the Cardinals, and one expected action against the Raiders, they had beaten 13 straight times to follow. Instead, the Raiders moved from an incredible upset, defeating the Chargers 35-27. Despite gains over 500 yards of offense, including 431 yards passing QB Philip Rivers were the Chargers in a number of mistakes made, especially on special teams. The Raiders blocked two barges in the first quarter alone, knocking one of the end zone for a safety and returned one for a TD. The Chargers are now 1.5 games back of the Chiefs in the AFC West, and with the Miscues do not accumulate the easy way into the playoffs, many analysts expected it this year.

We Want Carr!

The San Francisco 49ers have been stuck in a slump the whole season, and fired their offensive coordinator does not seem to keep them from beginning to 0-4. On Sunday evening, the Niners were to try again and to save their season, when they hosted the Philadelphia Eagles in demand. The Eagles were seemingly ripe for the taking, with QB Kevin Kolb again in the starting lineup thanks to a Michael Vick injury. Unfortunately lost several turnovers the 49ers again, and a late comeback fell short in a 27-24 loss. The lowlight came in the early fourth quarter, as the embattled QB Alex Smith was a fumble that was lost again for a TD. Heavy boos rained down on Smith, who went on to throw three incomplete passes on the next trip. After the last round, chants of "We want Carr!" filled the stadium as the crowd demanded that replace backup QB David Carr, a former no.1 pick, Smith. The audience was almost wish, but Smith was able to dissuade Coach Mike Singletary movement, and actually went up two TDs throwing to do to close the game. But after a game-sealing INT, the 49ers are now 0-5, and it is likely that Smith and Singletary will not survive the season. It should be noted that team president Jed York said the team would make the playoffs this season, despite the 0-5 start.

The new line of defense

Several defensive linemen have some pretty spectacular complaints over the weekend. Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh, the second pick in this year's NFL Draft, his first career INT in a 44-6 victory against the St. Louis Rams. He tipped a pass at the line and caught the ball, again it 20 yards to set up a fourth quarter FG. Not be topped, has Chicago Bears DE Julius Peppers, the largest free-agency signing in the off season, its own INT tilted in a 23-6 victory against the Carolina Panthers. It deflects a pass from Jimmy Clausen to the line, for Peppers manages the ball on the floor and start dive just before he touched the ground. His INT also a FG, this time in the first quarter. But no INT was more impressive than the Atlanta Falcons DE Kroy Biermann. Caring for a 13-10 lead in the 4th Quarter against the Cleveland Browns jumped to a beer man Jake Delhomme pass to distract. Tracking the ball he threw to make the INT just before touching the ball hits the ground. But with no one to touch him, he managed to get up again and the ball for a game-sealing TD, as the Falcons won 20-10. Not all of these pieces were of crucial importance for the team victory. But be granted with the playmaking ability of these defensive linemen to take care of crime certainly so much more.

Monday Night Headlines in abundance

This issue of double crosses could have been written on the Vikings-Jets game alone. The Jets were again three key starters to the lineup, CB Darrelle Revis (hamstring), LB Calvin Pace (foot) and WR Santonio Holmes (suspension). The Vikings had just traded for veteran WR Randy Moss, putting him in a Vikings uniform for the first time since 2005, and it is only the second player ever to appear on consecutive Monday night games. Vikings QB Brett Favre was under attack late in the week, according to a report Deadspin.com evidence that he committed lewd messages and other forms of sexual harassment, while with the Jets in 2008. The Vikings were trying to right the ship after an 1-2 start, while the Jets were to place in search of claim to the top of the AFC. All this served as a great matchup backdrop for a rainy Monday night. The Jets were able to hold off a second Half rally by the Vikings to a 29-20 victory, Favre threw his 500th at the Career TD pass and set the record for most fumbles lost. Despite an underwhelming performance let down the Jets offense that forced for FGs on almost every trip into the red zone was, they could pull off an important win at home. The Jets are now flying high at the top of the NFL, while the Vikings to quickly regroup before their 1-3 start out of control have.
