How The Great Lakes form Chicago weather

Chicago would not be Chicago without Lake Michigan weather. Chicago's location on the southwest shore of the lake allows the city to immediately improve after its founding in the 1830s in a core of production, transport and railways.

Lake Michigan Chicago weather has also contributed to world known as the blustery, freezing, and the home of some great winter storms, with the latest snow storm in February to make the record books as the third largest in the Windy City's history.

The following is a brief introduction to how and why Lake Michigan and the other Great Lakes have such an intense impact on Chicago weather.

The five Great Lakes (Michigan, Huron, Superior, Erie and Ontario) mainly act as a large heat sink, moderating the temperatures of their banks. The lakes also end up as a giant humidifier escalates, the amount of moisture in the air all year round swimming.

This means that in winter, moisture condenses these vast and snow when it hits shore is producing what is known as "snow belts" on the windward shore.

Locations on the downwind side of the lakes such as Cleveland, Ohio, Erie, Pennsylvania, and Buffalo, New York (Lake Erie), Syracuse, New York (Lake Ontario), etc. usually get what is called "lake effect" Snow announced, will receive more snow than other areas on the same latitude. For example, some sites on the shores of Lake Superior recorded snowfall of up to 350 cm in just one year!

But weather is not really from Chicago lake-effect snow, which arises from the fact that the current westerly winds that cross the region to take up moisture from Lake Michigan, after going through (some would say, by) hit Chicago.

That's not to say that the Lake Michigan weather does not drop a significant amount of snow in Chicago. The unusual east wind occasionally on the type of snow storms that are so popular in Snow Belt locations to bring.
