I Love Hate Russell Brand

I'm just giving into the world of Russell Brand and I'm not sure what I think. He pushes me with his Foofie, hair poofed in the back, buttoned shirt, perfect stubbly jaw line, un-British-like perfect teeth and lithe little body. But, pulling me with his razor-sharp wit and aggressive smiles.

No one has accused me on the bleeding edge of pop culture, so it will not surprise you to know, just last week I saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall for the first time, and I liked it very much. This was my first prolonged taste of Mr. Brand, as his character, singer Aldous Snow, humped and writhed in the bed with Kristen Bell, and while crooning his latest hit, "We must do something." Good stuff, he played the oversexed, flat-spiritual, fairy tale pop toy boy to perfection. Almost too good if you know what I mean. As it was not quite an act, or he was not to go too far way, more like making slight adjustments, such as starting from his Bump and Grind two inches deeper in the film than it would normally do in real life.

So after watching the movie, and the 6.75 hours of outtakes, extras and breakdowns, I decided that I probably needed to learn more about this British gent, and I hit the YouTube. It has not disappointed me. This is a complicated man.

Here he is doing standup in the round, the people in his own country to laugh, and I'm sure he was funny, though I could really understand what he said.

Here he is wit trade with Jimmy Kimmel. Wow, he's intelligent. Quick on his feet. Sexually charged. All while promoting a silly Disney movie starring Adam Sandler.

Here he is arm in arm with the love of his life … a very hot, light-skinned Katy Perry. He plunges into the red carpet and charm the interviewer with whacky humor. Perry stands in awe and stammers. She will marry him soon.

Here Russell is on the edge of paternalism David Hasselhoff when he interviews him for his TV show fluctuating, but never crosses the line. He gets to share the hope and laughter and the audience eats it up, irony, sincerity, humanity and all.

Here, fire and sparks trade Milla Jovovich in a cheeky celebration of love dressed for an interview.

And here on Sesame Street. Fabrice Fabrice kiss here. Here carry the broadcast band Infant Sorrow-up to new heights. Here on Letterman. Click on the view that all the ladies blush beneath the collar. And here to discuss his sexuality with David Letterman.

He is clean of drugs and alcohol. But, he is spinning off a tense half crazy vibe 24 / 7

He is everywhere. He takes the U.S. by storm, and I'm afraid I'm addicted.

Bring on Get Him to the Greek and Arthur to re-make, has this guy has "it" and I'm watching them. A few months later than everyone else, but his eyes glued to the screen yet.
