The Big Short Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis

The first New York Times bestseller list: a brilliant account character-rich and darkly humorous, as the U.S. economy was driven over the cliff. If the crash of the U.S. stock market became public in the fall of 2008, it was already yesterday's news. The actual crash, the silent crash occurred over from the previous year, not in bizarre feeder markets where the sun does not shine, and the SEC dare or bother to enter,: the bond and real estate-derivativemarkets invent where geeks impenetrable securities from misery of the lower and middle class Americans, who can not pay to profit off their debts. Pass the smart people know what was or could be understood were paralyzed by hope and fear, in any case they were not talking.

The crucial question is: Who the danger in the assumption of ever-rising real estate prices, the daily risk through the creation of this obscure, artificial securities loosely based on piles of dubious mortgage understood composed? Michael Lewis will make the request to the head, to a fresh, character-driven story full of anger and black humor, a fitting sequel to his No. 1 best-selling poker liar. Who is right? He asks. Who saw the real estate market for the black hole it would have been, and finally made up of billions of dollars that perception? And what characteristics made these few remain, when their peers and colleagues dismissed them as Chicken Littles? From this handful of unlikely – really unlikely – heroes Lewis fashions a story so compelling and unusual as his previous bestseller, proving once again that he is the finest and funniest chronicler of our times.

The Big Short seems to be another one of those books, determine the combination of a fire, timely topic of the author, instructive and witty investigative reporting. Only the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette criticized what it was a quick shot of writing and a violation of the individual stories to be integrated. Few readers will (laugh-out-loud moments, despite the absurdity) of the message here care, but Lewis is a capable leader in the world of CDOs, subprime mortgages, head-in-the-sand-investments, inflated egos – and the big short.

About the Author

Review about The Big Short

"How informative the book? Now, it may, it seems that Lewis has his work cut out, since the events of the recent financial crisis are already well known. More than that, many people have made their thoughts on the solders in the last years, banks and their aggressive manager, "shadow banks" and their even more aggressive managers, hedge funds, credit default swaps, mortgage broker, the rating agencies, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the U.S. central bank's monetary policy, various federal agencies, Short sellers, politicians, the homeownership over-pushed, a sensationalist media, the American public, the over-stretching themselves with excessive borrowing (or, to be lied to housing loans), housing speculators, etc.

Is the crucial aspect of this book, however, that they (and answers) asks: "Who knows?" about the impending financial crisis before. Who knew – before the financial crisis ripped open for all to see (and perhaps panic) in the fall of 2008, a silent crash played out in the bond market and real estate derivatives market? Actually deals with the good majority of the book events that occurred before the Lehman failure in September 2008. In describing what led to the darkest days of the crisis, not Lewis do a good job helping the reader to see how developed the great financial storm. All in all, this is an informative book. "
