The politics of gender / ethnicity in the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court further

Justice David Souter has confirmed rumors of his resignation from the United States Supreme Court with an appeal to President Obama in the White House. Now comes speculation about who will replace it.

This is the first Supreme Court appointment for a Democratic president in more than fifteen years. The collection has been appointed is not likely to be the ideological balance of the Supreme Court in that Souter was a liberal-minded justice contrary to what he thought he leaned on that date by the then President George HW Bush.

As expected, a more liberal leaning justice will most likely be picked up. There are strong support for a female to the replacement, as there was only one woman on the court now, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 76 years old and not in the best health with cancer repeatedly fought during her tenure.

This may be due to early discussions of liberal and feminist organizations weighing on this as soon as it was rumored that Souter would be retired leading assume that they have for each announcement of a resignation of judges, several of which already no doubt think it will soon be recognized .

"We are looking for Obama, an eminently qualified candidate to the core constitutional values is required to justice for all and is committed to not only select a few." Nan Aron says, the leader of the Alliance for Justice ultra-liberal/activist. Read: "We are looking for a more liberal on the court to maintain the status quo." They will undoubtedly push for a woman. It will be interesting to see their positions and recommendations.

Now it is tacky, even if we assume President Obama will pick a liberal justice. big time – pressure on him to choose a woman. Here we get into the arena of gender and / or ethnic politics. Critics of the Supreme Court have long not of being a bastion of conservative white men representative of the population to have as a whole. Cries of various women's groups for a long time, even the playing field echoed with the appointment of more women in our nation's highest judicial group.

Several possibilities have women as candidates, including Judge Diane Wood of Chicago, Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the Court of Appeals in New York, and Judge Kim Wardlaw of the 9th U.S. Circuit was mentioned among others. It will be interesting to see the complete list of women who are seen as potential candidates surface.

Obama has no obligation to appoint a woman as a matter of principle. He goes through it looking for a good constitutional right candidate, the threat of qualified for the job and not necessarily a candidate from one or another political activist group. But do not underestimate the pressure from women's groups, to do just that. There will be immense and unrelenting to the point that almost invincible and politically to ignore unenforceable. And ethnic groups, especially Hispanics, will weigh in heavily on naming one of their decisions.

So the wait begins. Will feminists assert the president? Will Hispanics call for ethnic "fees"? more so than the recent presidential election process that abound in such nonsense was that it's time we had a woman in the White House was – - It will be an interesting exercise in gender and ethnic politics, as if that should have been only consideration in our choice. Fortunately, not many succumbed to this argument, even though Hillary certainly pushed the limit on it. You may have allegedly cracked the glass ceiling, but the voters who would have shaken looked amazing, by their gender policy for exactly what it was – nonsense.

Interestingly, the most sense, which I heard so far on this selection from the most unlikely of sources, Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School in fame. In an interview with Nora O'Donnell on MSNBC, the question of gender, ethnicity, and race on the table was as consideration in the selection of the next justice to put up. Mr. Dershowitz down quickly not think these factors as saying that "objectively pressure" should not be a consideration in Obama's choice. Instead, he strongly supported the most qualified candidate should be selected – no other factors should be part of the decision. He denounced in particular picking each judge as a substitute. This was an astonishing proclamation of Alan in the face of its liberal bent of his past legal discussions occupied.

The flip side of the cautionary advice Dershowitz the cries of race / ethnicity is to appoint one of their group. Immediately after discussing O'Donnell segment on MSNBC, hosted by Chris Matthews 'Hard Ball' several guests on the upcoming nomination. "President Obama Supreme Court ever need to get to be a woman? Do we need a Hispanic to be nominated?" Chris asked his guests.

One was a National Organization for Women representative, subtly advocates for a woman to replace Souter. "It makes a difference. It increases the voice. It increases a perspective. And it adds something to the whole body. There is actually research that male judges a little different if women tend to vote in the yard with them says." , said President Kim Gandy NOW.

But the most glaring example of what Dershowitz warns was by Ruben Navarrette, a staff columnist for the San Diego Union-Tribune and an avid pro-immigration advocate favoring immigration supplied invasion of our country especially Mexicans – his legacy – here legally or illegally. Ruben revealed his perverse, ethnically biased position when a query from Chris appointing a Hispanic to the Court replied: "We are through!" He shouted defiantly, as if this is a kind of lottery. "And I do not mean just us because of the Obama Administration. I mean, we are in the course of history through … the real reason that you have to put a Latino on the Supreme Court, this is the fastest-growing minority. .. This is a minority, representing by 2032, a quarter of the country … It is the Latinos turn to break through their barrier. "

Ruben continues his whining tirade justice for Hispanics. "It is easy enough for white men to come forward and say that race and ethnic origin or gender should not matter but the fact is, that's the way we always done have. And if it's important to go for Italian-Americans to Antonin Scalia to it, or important to the African-American to Thurgood Marshall was there, why is it all of a sudden, when Latinos turn, that, oh, that the identity politics? … It's just not fair. "

Imagine? Have we really come to the place in our country where the spoils of government, sex, ethnic origin or race are appropriated for? Obviously and suffer so.

This is the first thing that probably many Supreme Court appointments that President Obama will be making secret. There are perhaps three rumored retirements in the near future in addition to Souter. Its decisions are left and right groups to the extent any dispute is to be examined.

It is his vocation. Let's keep our eyes open and our minds are clear to see on this first, if there are any hidden agendas, political motivation, character or reveals what Dershowitz warns: "objectively pressure."

Mittens for Christmas

It is something different, something special Christmas in the country. There is uniqueness of a country Christmas that sets them apart from the same holiday in the city. A little more rest and seemingly more meaningful. A quiet, contemplative time. A time to reflect on what Christmas is really about. Does anyone not knit gloves for Christmas?

On 10 November 1775 was established in the United States Marine Corps by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fittingly, "Tun Tavern" the place where history was written. Since that time Marines have been in continuous service to our country for 234 years, marked "in every clime and place" in distant lands and distant remote beaches "in the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli".

The Misbegotten NFL blackout policy "

I was shocked to hear that Saturday evening, 15 August preseason game between my local San Diego Chargers and the Seattle Seahawks visit had been a victim of the National Football League, "Blackout" policy. It did not sell out is the given reason. Hogwash! The real reason is plain old greed. The NFL object is to punish the home fans when they do not want to show, do not buy enough loyalty to all tickets for an NFL game, exhibition or season!
