6 Fun Facts About the history of the Alabama Crimson Tide

The Alabama Crimson Tide has had enormous success during his football history. Here are some facts that are less commonly known.

At the University of Alabama, football is king. The school is rust squad has won numerous national titles, had renowned coaches and players, and was even featured in the movie "Forest Gump". While most fans know from "Alabama", "Bama" or "UA" that this information, you can not realize a few others. Here are some facts about Alabama football, football fans know, the less:

1st The "Crimson Tide" nickname came from a muddy game

Prior to the Alabama Crimson Tide, the people commonly known as Alabama's football team, the "Crimson White" (named after the school colors) or "Thin Red Line". Then in 1907, played his arch-rival Alabama, Auburn. Alabama was a big underdog, and the teams played in a "sea" of red mud. However, Alabama Auburn struggled to a 6-6 tie. Later, in popularizing a sports editor named Zipp Newman, nicknamed the "Crimson Tide".

2nd No Alabama player has won the Heisman Trophy

Ironically, despite all the successes of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, no player has the Heisman Trophy Award given to the outstanding NCAA football player won in a season. In 1993, David Palmer was the next player to win the Alabama award. David "The Deuce" Palmer, played wide receiver for the Crimson Tide, which can later play seven seasons with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings.

3rd Alabama has won 21 SEC titles

The Crimson Tide football record is simply outstanding. Here are some of their achievements over the years:

? Capacity 25 conference titles (21 SEK)
? 51 Bowl Games
? 92 All-American players

4th Paul "Bear" Bryant had a .834 winning percentage as coach Alabama

Coach "Bear" Bryant is a legend at Alabama. He led the Crimson Tide to six national championships, half of the 12 national teams of all time titles. Bryant also at Texas A & M University, the University of Kentucky and coached the University of Maryland. However, it was Alabama, where Bryant had his greatest success. Bryant nicknamed "Bear", with 13-years old when he wrestled a bear as part of a theater production.

5th Alabama elephant mascot dates back to 1930

The origin of the elephant school mascot was the 1930 season. At this point, the team coach Wallace Wade was. During a game against Mississippi, Alabama, called "… come the elephants!" A fan, based on huge, Alabama aggressive players. Everett Struppen, a sports journalist reported the incident.

6th Three former Alabama coach in the College Football Hall of Fame

Since the Hall of Fame opened its doors in South Bend, Indiana (1951), it has taken 16 Alabama players and three coaches. The coaches were included Wallace Wade (1923-1930), Frank Thomas (1931-1946) and Paul "Bear" Bryant (1958 to 1982). The Hall of Fame as a player and coach Bryant.
