Dry mouth or xerostomia

Xerostomia Millions of people are of xerostomia and many more are concerned that not even seen the doctor. Most people treat themselves to a dry mouth, and in many cases, these do not help over the counter remedies. However, there are some medical conditions where medical treatment is necessary.

Xerostomia is just like a dry mouth known. The fundamental problem with this disease is the lack of saliva. While this may sound like a small matter, dry mouth can be painful and lead to bad breath, difficulty enjoying food, chapped lips and even pain when speaking. Lack of saliva leads to faster decay and makes food tastes terrible. Saliva is important for the protection of the mouth and digestion of food.

The symptoms of xerostomia include:
Dryness in the mouth, saliva, very tough and stringy, cracked lips, wounds and split corners along the edges of the mouth, bad breath, difficulty swallowing, difficulty speaking, altered taste, dental caries is.

There are many causes of dry mouth include medications, aging, use of cancer drugs, surgery, some autoimmune disease such as Sjogren's, Parkinson's, HIV, stroke and use of tobacco.

The treatment of dry mouth is a little difficult and depends on the cause. Today there are several medications available to increase saliva production. These drugs include Salagen and cevimeline. Both work well, but you need the salivary glands are functioning.

For others it is sugar-free chewing gum, coffee, and avoidance of acidic foods, tobacco discontinuing, often drinking water, breathing through your nose and you have a humidifier in the house. Overall, treatment of dry mouth is very unsatisfactory
