Tom Harkin is considered to be one of the most adventurous, hard-working fighter in the U.S. Congress. Many people support him and believe him as Harkin speaks on behalf of people that can be omitted or â? Forgotâ?. Thomas Richard Harkin is the junior United States Senator from Iowa. Harkin is a member of the Democratic Party. He is currently the Ranking Minority Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.

Senator Tom Harkin won his reputation and popularity is because of his personal qualities, his desire to help people and that an opportunity for those who missed, to fight for their ideas in Washington: working families, women, disabled, children, students, and small business owners. In Congress, Tom Harkin made a good name and now he is a recognized leader in educational, health and agricultural areas of life.

Harkin, a prominent leader of the Democratic Party, was born in the town of Cumming, Iowa 1939th His father was a miner and his mother was an immigrant from Slovenia. Harkin attended the Iowa State University and was awarded the Juris Doctor degree from the Catholic University in 1972. He served in the U.S. Navy for five years. Harkin was an aide-de-camp to the replacement of the democratic congressman Neal Smith. That happened in 1970, when he signed a Congress delegation that went escorted to South Vietnam.

Tom Harkin was a lawyer in front of the posts in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1974. Two years later he was repeatedly re-elected every tow years from 1976 to 1982. Finally, Tom Harkin of Iowa was elected to the U.S. in 1984. 1990, 1996 and 2002: Since that Harkin was three times re-elected.

Harkin has gained its popularity as a defender of people with disabilities. Tom Harkin has always been a fighter for equal rights for people with disabilities. These people would lose their rights without the help of Tom Harkin. Senator Harkin is a great advantage for the state. People think he is on the right place, and he should stay as long as possible. In 1990, Harkin is the main sponsor of the law on people with disabilities. The law has the state's first all-law for the disabled. This legislation is signed into law by President George W. Bush, and it prohibits discrimination against disabled people in the workplace, public service and elsewhere.

However, some people consider that the law too far accommodations for disabled people requires. Still, it was in 2005, said in a magazine that the act was written in the period, and takes its place among the state freedom documents, such as: the Declaration of Independence, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Emancipation Proclamation.

Tom Harkin is considered honest and straightforward politician, his political ideas will be very effective. People say that he is a true democrat and they agree with his policies or actions. Harkin is also known for his controversial eulogy in 2002, announced by Senator Paul Wellstone. In this eulogy Harkin convinced the people "for Paul" and talks about "passing on Paul's legacy" – the words that sparked jubilation of a permit and an open political opinions and comments inappropriate for a funeral understood process. Other people affirmed that it was not right to criticize Harkin. Tom Harkin and California Senator Barbara Boxer are two Democrats in the Senate, which were awarded, bringing their opposition to President George W. Bush expressed and Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold to support the resolution.
