Ben Francisco hit a solo homer to help the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 on Tuesday night. Francisco went 1 for 4, dropping his batting average to .377 exhibition. He entered spring training trying to win the opening in right field created by Jayson Werth's departure to Washington, and manager Charlie Manuel indicated before the game that Francisco would be the starter.
